New Year’s Concert by the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra & Akureyri School of Music
The 80th anniversary year of the Akureyri School of Music comes to a close in January 2027. To mark this special occasion, the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Akureyri School of Music join forces to welcome the New Year in the magical surroundings of Hamraborg’s Álfhamrar hall.
It will be a grand celebration, with music and merriment in abundance — Icelandic songs and traditional rímur dances will take flight alongside the sweeping elegance of Viennese waltzes, as the crystal chandeliers gently sway.
But is the Danube frozen over? You’ll have to come to the concert to find out — and this is one New Year’s celebration you won’t want to miss!
The programme features music by, among others, Atli Heimir Sveinsson, Ingibjörg Þorbergs, Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnsson and Johann Strauss II.
