Ingimar Eydal – 90 Years

The Ingimar Eydal Band was one of Iceland’s most popular dance bands for many years. The band also released records that spread its reputation far beyond its home base in Akureyri. A love of performing and meticulous musicianship characterised the band, which always featured outstanding singers at the forefront. Among them were Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, Þorvaldur Halldórsson, Bjarki Tryggvason, Helena Eyjólfsdóttir, Inga Eydal and Grímur Sigurðsson. Special mention should also be made of Finn Eydal, whose clarinet and saxophone playing attracted well-deserved attention. The Eydal brothers had previously performed together in the popular Atlantic Quartet, which also released several successful records.

Singers Sigríður Beinteinsdóttir, Stefán Hilmarsson, Matthías Matthíasson and Bjarni Arason will perform some of the best-known songs from the repertoire of Ingimar Eydal and his fellow musicians, including Í sól og sumaryl, Magga, Sumarást, Vor í Vaglaskógi, Á sjó and Hún er svo sæt. They will be accompanied by a fantastic band led by Jón Ólafsson.
