The chamber group Öræfi was founded in 2025 by flutist Sóley Þrastardóttir, violist Þórunn Harðardóttir, and cellist Ásdís Arnardóttir, and is now giving its third concert.
Four diverse works will be performed, which nevertheless share many common features. The ensemble’s instrumentation is highly unusual, and the instruments themselves quite different from each other—undoubtedly one of the reasons why not many works have been composed for this combination.
The pieces to be performed are therefore rather unique, with the composers taking the liberty of exploring new sonic paths. Still, the works maintain a fairly classical approach and structure, while allowing each instrument to shine individually.
The trio Öræfi is especially proud to present Leiðin að settu marki? (“The Path to the Goal?”) by Bára Sigurjónsdóttir. The piece is part of a larger body of work that the composer has been developing in recent years and was premiered by Öræfi earlier this year.
The concert lasts about an hour and offers audiences the opportunity to experience chamber music in a fresh yet accessible way—hearing these contrasting instruments both together and individually, creating a fascinating and multifaceted whole.
The concert is part of the series Hvítar Súlur – The Music Society and is held in collaboration with Menningarfélag Akureyrar.
