Dr. Mads Gilbert is an award-winning Norwegian doctor and professor emeritus. He is a specialist in anesthesiology and emergency medicine at The Arctic University of Norway and chief physician at the emergency department at the University Hospital in Tromsø, Norway.
Since 1981, Mads has been active in solidarity with the Palestinians, especially in the field of health and mainly in Gaza for the last twenty years.
Mads worked at Shifa Hospital during the Israeli attacks on Gaza in 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2014. After October 7, 2023, he traveled to Egypt with NORWAC's emergency surgical team to work in Gaza, but the Israeli army denied him access to Gaza.
He is the author of the books "Eyes on Gaza" and "Night
in Gaza".
The Israeli army's attacks on Gaza have been going on for 7 months. The latest figures indicate that 34,500 people have been killed in airstrikes, of which over 13,000 are children. Thousands lie under the rubble and the average age of those who have been murdered is 5 years. Israel has almost completely blocked the transport of water, food, fuel, electricity and other necessities. Most hospitals are destroyed and all 12 universities in Gaza are in ruins. Doctors perform operations without painkillers, children die from malnutrition, and of the 2.2 million inhabitants of Gaza, 1.7 million people are displaced, including at least 17,000 orphans. Israel has destroyed almost all of Gaza's infrastructure, leaving the people with no way to escape and raining bombs on the fleeing people. Never have more UN staff or journalists been killed in such a short period of time.
