White Columns – Akureyri Music Society Concert Series
The Piano Quartet Negla was founded in 2023 and consists of four young musicians: violinist Sólveig Steinþórsdóttir, violist Anna Elísabet Sigurðardóttir, cellist Hrafnhildur Marta Guðmundsdóttir, and pianist Þóra Kristín Gunnarsdóttir.
Since then, the quartet has performed at numerous concerts, including at the Chamber Music Society in Harpa, the Tíbrá series in Salurinn in Kópavogur, the Folk Music Festival in Siglufjörður, and at Hof in Akureyri under the auspices of the Akureyri Music Society, in addition to playing in various schools and nursing homes in the capital area.
The quartet has received high praise from both audiences and critics. Music critic Michael Jón Clarke wrote of Negla’s performance: “From the very first notes, it was clear that this was no ordinary interpretation. (…) The interplay between the performers was as if they were playing one single, great instrument.”
On the program are brand-new works, written especially for the quartet, by Ingibjörg Ýr Skarphéðinsdóttir and Arngerður María Árnadóttir, as well as the beloved Piano Quartet in G minor by Johannes Brahms.
