The North Iceland Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with the Akureyri Theatre School, presents the family adventure The Soldier’s Tale by composer Igor Stravinsky and writer Charles Ferdinand Ramuz.

The story follows the soldier Joseph, who is on his way home for a 14-day leave. Along the way, he meets the Devil in disguise as an old man and trades his violin for a book that promises endless riches. Joseph soon discovers, however, that wealth does not bring happiness — and he longs for nothing more than to be poor once again.

First performed in Switzerland in 1918, the work has since been staged regularly around the world — a timeless fable about the traps and consequences of greed.
