Solstice Guðrún Sigurðardóttir

Solstice Guðrún Sigurðardóttir

The exhibition includes textile works, oil paintings, and drawings.

The works in the exhibition are connected through form and color, so the crocheted pieces that were made first influenced the creation of the later works. After completing the crocheted piece, a shape was cut from canvas. The shape cut from the canvas then appeared in another work, and this progression could be traced further.

The exhibition includes textile works, oil paintings, and drawings. The materials used are wool yarn, mohair/silk yarn, linen canvas, silk, watercolor paper, oil paint, linen cord, nails, and frames made of aspen wood crafted by Sigurður J. Sigurbjörnsson.

Guðrún completed a BA degree in Fine Art from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2018 and an MA degree in Fine Art from the same school in 2020.

Crocheting in the Round

To crochet in the round, you need to increase evenly six times per round. If the increases are always in the same places, a hexagon forms. Sometimes the increases can be generous, and to keep the circle or hexagon lying flat, it may be necessary to crochet a round without increasing. Adjusting. Stitch by stitch, the form builds itself. With deviations and distortions, it becomes organic. Fundamental rules are respected while chance is used to add color and life. Systematically. Again and again, endlessly, round after round.
