Amtsbókasafnið invites you to watch Egill Bjarni Friðjónsson's documentary, Mennt er máttur, at 14:00 on Akureyrarvaka in the libraries's cafeteria. Egill will be present to answer questions or chat.

 

Mennt er Máttur is a documentary that examines the relationship between the education system and society. We are probably all familiar with having looked back at our schooling and thought about why one thing was taught and not another, or why this is still being taught and why has the other been taught for a long time? The film examines critical voices like these from the sides of students, school staff, and outside the system, to get a better picture of where the education system stands compared to society today.

 

The film is an hour long, and is divided into four themes:
- Schooling of interviewees
- Box-shaped education system
- General criticism
- Online worlds

 

The film was produced in 2023 and the first months of 2024. The film is sponsored by Myndstef, the Icelandic Filmmakers Fund.
