Description:
Möðruvallafjall is a majestic mountain rising over eastern Eyjafjarðarsveit. Connected to nearby mountains and highland areas, it offers varied and enjoyable hiking routes. The views from the mountain are extensive, providing peace and natural beauty.
This trip is designed to explore the landscape, enjoy camaraderie, and experience nature. The first part of the route is quite steep, but afterwards it is relatively easy to walk.
We drive along the eastern Eyjafjörður and park at Sámsstaðir, where the hike begins. The route ascends the ridge above the farm and continues to Öxnafellsnibba (820 m), the northernmost part of Möðruvallafjall. From there, we head south along the mountain to its highest point, around 1,000 m above sea level.
The hike continues south to Illagil in Sölvadal, then ascends Kerhólsöxl (960 m) and follows an easy trail down into Sölvadal, with Illagil on the right. The walk ends after crossing the Núpá bridge north of Eyvindarstaðir. The group will be picked up in Sölvadal later in the day.
