Car-sharing is available for those who wish.
Start from the parking lot at Hotel Sel in Skútustaðir at 9:30 AM.

Hike along the Kráká river to Litlaströnd, then cross Framengjar, historically used for hay collection by many farms in the area. Continue along old roads and farm tracks until reaching Grænavatn, where there will be a stop to learn about the site’s history and old buildings. After a refreshment break at Grænavatn, continue to Garður and follow the old main road along the lake back to Skútustaðir, stopping at Arnarbæli and finishing around 5:00 PM. It is recommended to bring snacks.
The entire hike follows old roads and livestock paths. Along the way, participants will learn about local folklore, traditional haymaking, wetland restoration, irrigation channels, pseudocraters, and much more.
