Pipes, Case, and Notes – Let’s Build an Organ

At the museum we play around with assembling an organ—pipe by pipe—arranging notes, connecting the wind chest, putting together the organ case, and of course, trying out the instrument.

At the end of the workshop, we perform a fairy tale for organ and narrator, a piece specially composed for the instrument.

Organ Kids is a fascinating and fun project that has been highly successful across Europe in recent years.

The organ used in this workshop is very simple in design, small, lightweight, and well-suited for children. It comes in pieces—like building blocks or LEGO—and is meant to be taken apart and reassembled.

The session is led by organist Sigrún Magna Þórsteinsdóttir, lasts about an hour, and is designed for children aged 6 to 12.
