Open House is a collaborative project between Friends of the University of Akureyri, the Primary Health Care of North Iceland (HSN), Akureyri Hospital, the Association of Senior Citizens in Akureyri, and Active Later Years – Akureyri Municipality.
Olga Ásrún Stefánsdóttir, adjunct at the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Akureyri, will present her research on situations where elderly spouses in a marriage must move from their home to a nursing home due to severe cognitive impairment. The study is conducted from the perspective of the spouse who continues to live at home and demonstrates how their daily life is significantly disrupted in terms of identity, everyday tasks and activities, as well as overall well-being.
Among other things, the research examines the impact of a spouse’s cognitive impairment on marriage, family life, caregiving responsibilities and duties, as well as interactions with formal care services.
Additional presentations will be offered during the spring semester at Open House:
Open House events are always held on Mondays at 14:00 in room N102, Sólborg, Norðurslóð 2.
