SEA, SWEAT AND SALT

SEA, SWEAT AND SALT

Windowinstallation for the whole family in Hafnarstræti 88

The window installation in Hafnarstræti 88, Brynja's studio, is called Sea, Sweat and Salt and is dedicated to fishery. The installation is designed by the sisters Brynja Harðardóttir Tveiten, visual artist and Áslaug Harðardóttir Tveiten who owns the second hand vintage shop Ms. Blómfríður. The subject is close to their hearts as they are fisherman´s daughters and grew up in a small village called Árskógssandur where the whole existence was mainly based on catching fish and harvesting seafood. The exhibition starts on the annual Fishermen's Day, June the 2nd

and runs until the end of the month. As it is a window exhibition it is accessible 24 hours and free of charge.

"Fishery is among one of the main foundations of Icelandic society. Without it we would have become something totally different” the sisters say. “Fishery runs in our blood and we are so grateful being able to add our touch to the celebration of this year's Fisherman's Day lasting throughout June".

The window features a collection of faded, weathered old things that have served their purpose well, for example rubber boots, dried fish (skreið), pocket knives and photographs. The sisters boldly mix and match things from different time periods. Their purpose is to make the WINDOW fun, interesting and evoke positive emotions, curiousity and mental connections among the viewers. They describe the window as a snapshot that those who pass by can decide how long will last, depending on how fast they go.
