An exhibition under the title Creation of Childhood has been on Akureyri Art Museum‘s program since 2015. The aim is to enrich museum education and present and stimulate creative work and creative thinking among school children from the age of five to sixteen. Participants each time are schoolchildren and artists as well as Akureyri Museum / Toy Museum.

This year the artist Sunna Svavarsdóttir was invited to participate in the project. Her works open a dialogue about how we navigate the world
through our senses. She focuses on experiencing certain moments that are primarily a perception of touch and smell. Her curiosity to find ways
to lengthen such moments often sparks the starting point of her works. Participating schools this year are the preschool Tröllaborgir and the elementary schools Brekkuskóli, Glerárskóli, Naustaskóli and Oddeyrarskóli. The children visited the museum and created their works for the exhibition under the guidance of the artist. That gave them the opportunity to get to know Svavarsdóttir and create their own works, inspired by hers.
