Summer Solstice Festival

Summer Solstice Festival

The event is celebrated annually in Grímsey island.

Celebrate the magic of the midnight sun on Grímsey, Iceland’s northernmost inhabited island — and the only part of the country that lies directly on the Arctic Circle. From June 19–21 2026, the islanders of Grímsey warmly invite you to join them for their annual Summer Solstice Festival, a joyful celebration of light, nature, and community.

This family-friendly festival offers a program of local events and entertainment. Visitors are welcome to take part in the celebrations and experience the charm and hospitality of Grímsey’s close-knit community.

In addition to the festivities, guests can enjoy the island’s breathtaking nature — from its rugged coastline to its teeming birdlife. Grímsey is home to thousands of puffins and seabirds, and during the solstice, the island basks in 24-hour daylight under the glow of the midnight sun.

The people of Grímsey celebrate this annual occasion and warmly welcome guests and visitors to join in.
