Exhibition of Multilingual Children at Iðavellir Preschool

Stories in Motion is the result of a project at Iðavellir Preschool, where multilingual children from the two oldest groups created stories using a variety of methods. Some chose picture stones to build their stories around, others used magnetic images, some used finger puppets, and others used play materials.

The goal was to foster the children’s creativity, language development, and artistic skills. By focusing on multilingual children, the project aimed to highlight their work in the preschool and showcase the important work the preschool does with multilingual students. Many children at Iðavellir are from international backgrounds, making multilingual activities a central part of daily life. Each child participates weekly in ÍSAT language development with their teachers (ÍSAT = Icelandic as a Second Language). The process was documented by the teachers, resulting in the exhibition Stories in Motion, now on display at the Amtsbókasafn Library.

The exhibition is open during the library’s opening hours:

  • Monday–Friday: 08:15–19:00
  • Saturday: 11:00–16:00
  • Sunday: Closed

The project is supported by the Akureyri Children’s Culture Festival.
