Mindfulness & Compassion for Navigating the Climate Crisis

Climate Cafe Iceland and Myrra Leifsdóttir, artist and compassion therapist, welcome you to join us in exploring the potential of compassion —both for ourselves and others— as a vital tool for resilience and connection in a time of uncertainty and environmental change.

This session will begin with a short talk on why compassion is essential for navigating the emotional weight of the climate crisis, helping us remain grounded and motivated in our actions. Following the talk, there will be a guided meditation focusing on connection, compassion, and building a sense of community.
Whether you're new to mindfulness or a seasoned practitioner, this session offers space to reflect, recharge, and connect.

Myrra Leifsdóttir has an academic background in Environmental Studies and Arts at master’s level in both fields. She is currently completing the Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT)™ program, developed by Stanford University's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at the Compassion Institute. With several years of experience in researching emotional connections to nature, Myrra has also led various event and project management initiatives focused on the intersection of arts, culture, and sustainability. Her work weaves together mindfulness, compassion, and creativity to nurture a deeper connection with the natural world and inspire meaningful environmental engagement.

The Climate Café Iceland, founded by Marina Ermina and Marissa Pinal, is a welcoming space focused on well-being, the environment, and community building. It offers a platform for individuals and groups to exchange knowledge, experiences, support, ideas, and activism. In the face of environmental challenges, the Climate Café aims to build community resilience and counteract eco-anxiety and inaction through mutual aid and care.
